Why Not Me?! Animal Rescue was created because of a need to help animals that were not in the surrounding areas. Some rescues only deal with animals in their surrounding areas where we have decided to help out more desolated areas. In these places some people feel that animals are just property, we feel different. We feel that animals are not property, they are living beings and deserve love and understanding. Our animals are pulled right before they are to cross over the bridge. Thankfully there are a lot of caring souls that will pull these animals, hold them for us and then help us transport them from their area up to us.
About Why Not ME?!
We are newly formed that has just received our non-profit status. We are a registered non-profit organization with the IRS and the state of New Jersey. Like most other rescues we created this organization because of a need that we felt was not being met. WNM is a very small rescue at this time but we are hoping to grow as time goes on. We don't have a lot of fosters BUT we have a large list of people that would like to adopt dogs.
The volunteers that form this rescue have experience in a lot of catagories. Some have been doing rescue for years, while others have been training dogs and still other volunteers help out any way they can. At this moment we mainly work with dogs in the south due to the number of needy animals. We also take in cats when needed. We don't have too much room for cats at this moment but, as we grow so will our list of animals we hope to help out.
Our Volunteers
Most of our volunteers have dogs, some even have a cat or 6, but all are animal lovers. Some of our volunteers are unable to have the pleasure of being owned by a loving animal BUT they want to help in ANY fashion they can. We are an all breed rescue but we specialize in German Shepherd dogs at this moment. We are trying to expand our knowledge of all larger breeds but this takes time so please be patient with us.
We also take in cats if the need calls for it. But we must be VERY selective with the cats to make sure they get along with other cats and larger dogs.
Our Policies
We are pretty much clear cut. If you would like one of the animals listed on our site then contact us at whynotme@whynotmeanimalrescue.com and we will be more then happy to send you out an application. (We are still working on getting the application online) Once your application is received we will go though your references. If they are approved we will then schedule a home visit and would like to meet everyone that is living in the house. We do long distance adoptions but they do take a little more time and might be a little more money if we can't get a volunteer transport. If we are doing a long distance adoption we MUST get a reliable person to do the home visit. This also might take a little longer but we will find someone.
After all that is completed and approved we will work on getting you your perfect mate. Please be realistic when it comes to picking out your perfect animal. Most of our animals come with some issues. For one reason or another they were abandoned and it takes time for those wounds to heal so PLEASE be reasonable.
Our available animals MUST spend a minimum of 2 weeks in our rescue. This is for everyone's benefit. We can make sure the animals are vetted and altered. We can also help with any possible issues that might arise. It usually takes 2-3 weeks for a dog to start being himself and a little longer then that time for cats to adjust. We are able to process applications during this hold period but we do NOT promise anyone any particular animal. This is not a first come first serve basis. We want was is best for everyone. Our fees include all age appropriate shots and altering. We are currently working on getting microchips for out animals but we need someone that is willing to stick the animals. LOL
